Album Review: Conor Maynard's "Contrast"

The first time I saw (and heard) Conor Maynard was in MTV Push, around June or July of last year. Clips of "Can't Say No" and "Vegas Girl" were shown, and being a self-proclaimed sucker for urban beats, I was hooked. In that same month, his debut album "Contrast" came out.

Despite being called as the "British Justin Bieber" (probably because they were both discovered through Youtube), Conor Maynard has a more mature vibe. Before you dismiss him as "just another pop act", know that he wrote most of the songs in this album. Contrast starts off high with Animal (which is a sexy song, by the way) and the songs after it are as gorgeous as the next. Four singles have already been released from the album and it just keeps getting better and better. He has the knack for shocking his listeners with falsettos; something Justin Timberlake always does. Collaborations with artists like Ne-Yo, Pharrell and Rita Ora are also big parts in the album; Better Than You would probably be my favourite of these collabs.

Being a dancer myself, I always look for beats to dance to and this album is the epitome of it. You have the strong beats of Animal and Better Than You, the chill beats of Lift Off and the softer beats of Glass Girl and Just in Case, and voila! You have songs to create choreography to.

Final Verdict: 9.25/10
Contrast is a good debut album, especially for someone as young as Conor Maynard. It's classy and catchy but not losing the vibe of being playful and fun. With an album as good as this one, I can't help but be excited for the next!
