Three Important Tips to Survive Long Flights

Long-haul flights are always downright exhausting and if you're unlucky, uncomfortable. 10+ hours in a plane might seem harmless until you're actually experiencing it. If you're traveling to the other side of the world via plane, here are a few things I believe would help you get through the long flight a much more comfortable one.

1. Wear comfortable, but appropriate, clothes.

I mean it when I say comfortable but appropriate. You're going into another country, you're going to go through immigration, and the last thing you want to do is to feel uncomfortable in your own clothes. Most of your time in the air will be spent sitting or lying down on your chair. It's also going to get cold in the plane, especially when it's nearing midnight. I recommend wearing something that will keep you warm but not enough to make you feel too hot. The number of people who use the lavatory, plus the space you lack inside the lavatory, wouldn't really give you much leeway to change. Pajamas, however, are a big no-no. Imagine yourself being interviewed by the immigration officer in your pajamas!

2. Check-in early to get a good seat.

The best seats are always the ones that get reserved fast. Some airlines have online check-ins so it's best to check if yours has one, just so you can get a headstart on the others. One other thing is to get to the airport at least four hours earlier in order to get your desired seat. Check which seats would be better for you. If you frequently go to the restroom, it's best to get an aisle seat. That way, you wouldn't have to go over people's legs that much. If you think you won't be going there as much and would rather rest, it's best to get a window seat. People always going to the restroom wouldn't bother you as much then. However, if you need the leg room (especially for people with long legs), opt for the exit seats. Mind you, the exit seats have the responsibility with regards to the door during an emergency.
3. Pack light.
Whenever we travel, I always carry a backpack with me. In it are the essential things that I need such as my passport and ticket, my wallet, a small vanity bag (sans liquids and gels), a good book, and a sleeping kit. The In-Flight Entertainment of your airline may not be as entertaining as you expected it to be, so it's best to have your own. I always brought a book with me, just in case the selections for the in-flight entertainment are far too limited. The sleeping kit could be two things: a big help or extra load in your bag. See, some airlines have comfy pillows and blankets, while some don't. It'd be best if you research on them first. However, if you want to be surprised, then by all means, go for it!

I know there are a lot more tips out there, much more detailed than this one. However, I put in these three because I think these are the most important ones. Next thing you know, you're already at your destination! Have fun!
